Making of a Quilling Card

Every QuillingMade card begins with a spark of inspiration and is brought to life through careful hands and heartfelt intention. From the first sketch to the final paper curl, each piece is crafted with thought, love, and patience — so when you hold it in your hands, you're holding more than just a card. You're holding a moment, an emotion, a keepsake.

Designing a Quilled Greeting Card

Each quilled card begins with inspiration — drawn from nature, animals, meaningful symbols, holidays, special occasions, and even ideas from our beloved customers.

Our design process starts in many forms: a hand sketch, a digital illustration, or a soft watercolor painting. When watercolor is used, it's carefully scanned and refined using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Once the design is finalized, it’s sent to our talented quilling artists in Vietnam, where the idea takes physical shape. Multiple drafts and test versions are often created to ensure that the final piece captures both the beauty of the design and the heartfelt emotion behind it.

Every card is more than just paper – it’s a thoughtful journey from imagination to your hands.

Behind Every Card Is a Trained Artisan

Each QuillingMade card is handcrafted by a skilled artisan in our workshop in Vietnam. Quilling is more than just a craft — it's a fine art that demands patience, precision, and dedication.

Before joining our production team, every prospective quiller undergoes six months of intensive hands-on training. During this time, they learn the foundational “alphabet” of quilled shapes and develop the meticulous skills required to bring each intricate design to life.

Only after completing this rigorous training are they ready to craft the cards you send to your loved ones — with consistency, beauty, and the highest level of craftsmanship in every coil and curve.

Our Signature Quilling Process

Step 1: The Artwork Begins

Every handmade card starts with a printed illustration that serves as the design blueprint. This guides the artisan in placing each quilled detail with precision.

Step 2: Preparing the Paper

We use Kishu paper, a premium Japanese paper known for its strength, texture, and eco-friendly qualities. The paper is cut into thin strips, ready for shaping.

Step 3: Coiling with Care

Using a quilling pen, the artisan threads each paper strip through the tool and rolls it into a tight coil — the basic building block of every design.

Step 4: Shaping the Details

Each coil is gently shaped into teardrops, scrolls, hearts, or other forms, depending on the design. These shapes are arranged and layered to bring depth and dimension.

Step 5: Assembling the Card

The finished quilled elements are carefully placed and glued onto the card base, following the original artwork. This step requires patience, steady hands, and a keen eye for detail.

Step 6: Final Touches & Quality Check

Before a card is ready to be shipped, it undergoes a thorough quality check to ensure every piece is secure and the composition is visually perfect.
